We often get questions asked about AEGIS – what it is, and why we are signed up to their accreditation, and why we feel it should be taken so seriously. Hopefully this section goes someway to answering these. These answer question about the Organisation itself, as well as our own views.
When were AEGIS established?

They were founded in 1994, so have been around for a very long time. With this they know what makes a good Guardian, what makes a not so good one, as well as an in depth knowledge of Boarding Schools, host families, exeat weekends and everything in between.

Why do YES Guardians have an AEGIS Accreditation?

We have worked very hard, and spent many hours to find out what is looked for by parents so they know they can trust an organisation. AEGIS was by far the most visible way of being a seal of approval for parents, students and schools alike.

This is why we spent the time to provide the evidence to get our AEGIS accreditation, so that you, as potential members of our YES family can be safe in the knowledge we are trustworthy, professional, and safe to work with your loved ones.

Where are AEGIS based?

AEGIS are based in the centre of England, with links to all the local Boarding schools in the UK.

Do I need an AEGIS Guardian for my child?

This depends on the policy of the school. Many insist on the Guardian offering their services to be accredited – such is the general sense of importance within the sector.

Do AEGIS regularly come up with new ideas?

Yes. Part of what we like about AEGIS, is we agree with their ethos. They regularly meet to seek improvement based on experience, and to work with all other Guardianships to gather evidence and to continuingly improve.

Much like YES Guardians, we feel good communication is key between all people involved.

Who AEGIS work with?

They work with Guardianships, agents, schools, parents, everyone.

What is great is their sole focus is on the welfare of International Students, meaning they can specialise on that focus group.

Do AEGIS offer training?

Yes. They do offer training for all their members, meaning we all have the opportunity to learn, and to always improve the level of Aegis guardianship we can provide.

Do AEGIS check where my child will be staying in the holidays?

As part of the accreditation, case studies on host family profiles will be taken, and the families spoken to.

This is to ensure that the parents can be confident they will be consulted always about where their loved one will be staying when the Boarding school is closed, and that the families have all the relevant security checks, in terms of them as individuals and their home before students are placed.
